Painting in Art Class

Today we learned about how to relate and artists signature to his drawing style and we had to emulate and copy various artist's work. We also learned about controlled and uncontrolled hand drawing. It's as self explanatory as it sounds, freehand drawing is when you're working with a looser grip, making quick, fast, cursory movements while controlled hand drawing takes diligent effort and concentration. Here is the work I emulated using paint and ink :)

National Art Honor Society

Today I went to the National Art Honors Society meeting because I am very interested in joining this school club after rekindling my interest in art. I got to meet everyone else who was interested, some of them I knew and some of them I didn't, it seemed like everyone was very creative and nice. I felt like I was in the house of hyperion, haha! We all got snacks as we sat around the table and talked about the kind of activities we'd like to do through out the year. We came up with outdoor sketching, tie-dye lessons, field trips to museums, murals, and many other ideas. Im excited for our next meeting where we'll actually get to do one of these things :)

Blogging About Blogs

Today I looked into some of my favorite bloggers to see what I could learn from them to make my blog even better. A lot of successful bloggers seem to have their own personalized layout and setup to their blog that makes it unique instead of using the standard tools blogger gives you. Another thing I took note on was that they always have something interesting to blog about and they update frequently. There are pictures on every post and that helps a lot too because viewers want to see the kind of things that go on in your life. I will definitely try to improve my blog and make it stand out because I want mine to be remembered as being the best so that I can win the notebook at the end of the year ;)

Style Bubble is one of my favorite fashion blogs, Susie (the creator of the blog) is an inspiration to me!  I have been following her for a long time <3 :)

A Hope in the Unseen

Today I bought a book called 'A Hope in the Unseen' by Ron Suskind. It's about the journey of a boy named Cedric Jennings and his experience going to a high school in one on Washington D.C.'s most dangerous neighborhoods. The students in this school are unmotivated and academically undetermined while Cedric stands out for being the opposite. He is one of the few honor students and he is determined to make something of himself and not use his upbringing as an excuse not to do well in the world. I believe my AVID class chose this book for us to read is because it is somewhat relatable and it proves that anyone can strive for the best, work hard, and become successful no matter what their situation is. :)

Fall Shopping

Today I went to Annapolis Mall to do some fall shopping. I had never been to this mall before but I since I was in the area after attending another one of my sister's basketball games, I decided to go. The mall was vivacious and full of energy, it was better to any mall I had been to in Maryland. I went to my favorite stores, H&M, Free People, Forever 21, and Wet Seal. I bought lots of sweaters, skirts, jeans, and accessories and I'm totally ready for fall. :)

Family Fun Day

Today I  started off the day with my family by attending my sister's basketball game. I had to wake up earlier than I usually would on the weekends but it was worth it. The game was intense and they were up against tough competition. I brought my digital camera with me to take some action shots of the game for my photography class. They ended up losing the game but they were up against older girls it should strengthen their skills and make them more prepared. After the game there was a parade of fire trucks coming down the street so I took advantage of that opportunity and took pictures of that too. Overall, I had a pretty good day.

Back Into The Arts

I have always been a very creative person and have expressed that through drawing, painting, acting, dancing, writing, and any other way I could think of. I went to a magnet arts middle school and specialized in visual arts. I lost interest for a period of time but after being being surrounded by so many great artists in the fashion world this summer, I was inspired to get back into the arts. I decided to take a fine arts class this year and join the National Art Honor Society.  We did a still life drawing today and i have to say I was surprised at how well it came out, even the teacher told me I did a great job. :)
I also learned about a new artist, Takashi Murakami. I think his work is so fascinating and unique! I am excited to keep learning about artists and doing more drawing assignments so that I can get to the level I want to be on.  I have so much room to grow and ways to improve! :)

AVID Induction Ceremony

So I just came home from the AVID induction ceremony at school today and I have to say, it seems like just yesterday when I was attending it for the first time as a freshmen. The auditorium was packed with students and their families, mine included, and you could just feel all the support from everybody. The most memorable part of the evening for me was watching the freshmen and new AVID members get their torches lit and pass it on to their peers. It brought back flashbacks to when I was standing in that 'U for unity' and also remembering who was in it with me, a lot of those peoples torches completely dimmed out. I am proud to have been in AVID all four years and it has been quite a memorable journey, and it's not even over yet. I'm excited to go back to school with the AVID mantra in mind and refreshed in my head. I will act now! (:

Smile For The Camera

Today was my first day back to school from being in New York. I had a great summer but now it's time to get back to business. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do but I know I'll catch up. We got our camera in photography class today and Im so excited to start shooting! It's a Nikon FM10 and I did some research on it, it's from the 90's but that makes it vintage so at least it's fashionable right?! :)

After the Shoot

So the shoot with Brides today went amazingly. When I got there, I got to see all the beautiful dresses I would be in for the day. It was a long shoot, 9am to 5pm but it was a ton of fun and the time just flew by! All of the dresses were light pink, I felt like a Barbie bride! :) The hair, make up, and accessories all looked great and everybody on set was a blast to work with, including the other models. (Contrary to the belief that all models are catty and stuck up. Haha!) Here's a picture from a previous shoot I have done for Brides magazine.

Im soooo excited to find out that I booked the spread for Brides Magazine! I get to shoot tomorrow so I picked up a copy of this months Brides for inspiration. To add to this good news, I get a free mani-pedi on them in my favorite color, light pink! (:

Lazy Sunday

Sunday is one of the only days of the week where I'm not running around all over the city going on go-sees so me and the girls decided to go out for breakfast. It's rare that we have time to sit down and eat because we're always on the run! I ordered a small stack of pancakes, turkey bacon, eggs, and a glass of apple juice to go with it and it was delicious! The service was great too :) After that we went for a walk through Central Park. Midway through our little stroll, we got a call from our agent saying we had a go see to go on. Well.. it was fun while it lasted!

Saturday in the City

After going on castings ALLL day me and the girls decided to just take a break and do some sight seeing in Time Square since we had a new girl in the apartment with us from California that had never been to New York before. It was so much fun, we took lots of pictures, went shopping, and just talked :)

More AP Photo HW

I continued my photography assignment by going to the park and taking pictures for my classical aesthetic theme. This is what I came up with.

Photography Assignment

I haven't came back from New York yet but my photography teacher told me the assignment that the class is working on now. We have to do four digital pictures, one for each photography aesthetic. The symbolic aesthetic means that the object of the picture has to symbolize something. The classical aesthetic means the picture has to fit into classical photography (portraits, landscapes, etc). The conceptual aesthetic means the picture has to be quirky and stimulate the viewer to think about the less obvious meaning of the picture. The journalistic aesthetic means the picture has to cover a story. This is my picture for the conceptual aesthetic. :)

The Calm After the Storm

After yesterdays busy, fun filled day, I had a clear schedule so I spent the day taking pictures, as I always do. Landscape photography has really become a hobby of mine. :)

Lights, Camera, Action.

After I was done in hair and make up I was asked to do an interview for Fashion Network TV! I was so excited and a little nervous but luckily I didn't let my nerves get the best of me. A few minutes later we did a practice run of the show so we would know what to do when the show actually started.

When the show began I was excited and I gave the audience my best walk. Its funny how on the runway you would never guess how chaotic it actually is backstage. Stylists, hair stylists, and make up artists come running at you to change your look, touch up your make up, and change your shoes the minute you get off the runway! I love the vibe of it because it only makes me more excited. When the show was over we were all cheering and Daisy Fuentes thanked all of the staff and us models for helping her with her show. We even got a little gift bag on the way out! :)

Day of the Show!

Today was such an exciting and memorable day for me. I started off getting up early so that I could get to hair and make up. One of the girls, Lauren, was in this show with me so Im glad I knew someone there and had someone to talk to. Our agent Jules showed up, along with Harold who also works for our agency came to see us walk.

Fitting for the Show

Im so excited about my fitting today for the show I'm going to be in! I'll be walking for Daisy Fuentes and Malan Breton. Daisy Fuentes is a celebrity designer and Malan Breton is a former winner of the successful television series, 'Project Runway'. Im sure the clothes will look amazing. :)
Here's a picture I took while waiting for a taxi and I called one just in time! :D

September 11, 2011

Today marks the ten year anniversary of September 11th and that is an especially big deal here in New York. There was a memorial at Ground Zero and although it wasn't impossible to move on with your daily routine, you could feel a bit of a gloomy atmosphere amongst everyone.  Here's a picture I took at of flowers nears the memorial

Happy Birthday Molly!

Today me and the girls went out for dinner to celebrate Molly's birthday. We went back out to South Street Seaport and we got her a cake and we each brought presents and she said it was on of the funnest birthdays she'd ever had.

Coney Island!

Today, Cameron, Lauren, and I all went to Coney Island. I remember going there as a kid but I hadn't been there since and the other girls had never been so it would be an adventure for all of us. It was surprisingly hot so while we were there we went to the beach, along with getting on all of the rollercoasters (which I no longer have a fear of). On our way out, we stopped by a souvenir shop for "I Survived the Cyclone" t-shirts and other cool things. (The Cyclone is a historic wooden rollercoaster that has been on the island since it was first used for recreation)

Walking Through Central Park

After an exhausting day full of castings, me and my friend Alex decided to unwind by going for a walk through Central Park. It's always fun walking through the park because you never know what kind of people you're gonna see, New York is a city full of well... interesting people. There was a guy that had a huge, vivacious squawking parrot on his shoulder but unfortunately I didn't get a picture of that. Haha. I did take this picture of these beautiful flowers though; with fall coming in, they won't be here long. :)

South Street Seaport

Just got in from eating dinner out with the girls and one of their parent's that was in town today. It was so much fun and the restaurant had a great atmosphere and great food. We got a table outside since it was such a beautiful night. Seaport is right near the ocean and by the Brooklyn bridge and there were tons on shops around too. Unfortunately, they were all closed since it was so late :P It was a very trendy place and I would love to go back again :)
